Gearbox problem, broken screw.
I'm trying to remove a pulley from a motor spindle, when the small grub screw that holds it on has no head on it. It broke off when originally tightened. I tried pulling it, but it won't budge & I don't want to damage the motor. Any ideas? Marky P. It depends what the grub screw does where it hits the shaft.

While trying to remove a screw (philips style) which was being used to mount a CD-rom drive, I accidentally 'stripped' the head of a screw which seemed to have been overtightened. Anyway, what was once a screw now looks more like a rivet...the entire '+' part of the screw now looks more like an 'o'.

Actually though, if the screw is in plastic and is a slightly different metal than the plate it held on, it could still have been sweat corrosion that weakened the shank right under the head. It's exactly the failure mode I would anticipate. Yep, the yoke is aluminum with a plastic coating.

The easy-out threads are reverse and tapered so they tighten in the hole and twist the screw out. Works every time. They come in different sizes with or without the appropriate drill bits and are
